UK energy use fell by 5% in eight years

A draft European Commission report on European energy efficiency puts the UK as one of the top performers in Europe in terms of cutting energy usage. We were the only major European economy to see a drop in recent years, after our energy use fell by more than 5% from 2000 to 2008. Overall, energy use in the 27 EU countries increased by more than 4%. Only Denmark and Ireland used less energy per unit of GDP.
