Invensys Process Systems has won a contract to supply a modern Foxboro I/A Series DCS system to Total Bitumen for its site in Preston. The Preston plant converts heavy oil feedstock into various grades of bitumen for use in advanced road surface coatings and roofing materials. As part of an HSE upgrade at the site and to meet the need for a platform that would allow expansion into other areas and improved data management, Total Bitumen replaced its plant PLCs with a new automation system. Invensys plans to migrate the existing PLCs onto a new Foxboro mesh network-based I/A Series automation system, overseeing activities such as oxidation, kegging, blending, storage and rail offloading.
