UK energy group Powergen is reported to have mothballed its power stations at Grain, Kent, and Killingholme in Lincolnshire in a bid to cut costs following a steep drop in wholesale electricity prices since the market was deregulated last year. The move, which reduces the company’s electricity production by nearly 25%, will result in some job losses. The company supplies some 8% of the UK’s electricity.
