When will the oil run out?

George Monbiot interviews Fatih Birol, chief economist of the International Energy Agency and lead author of the IEA's latest 2008 World Energy Outlook. Birol predicts that global conventional oil will come to a plateau around 2020. He suggests we need a 'global energy revolution' to avoid an oil crunch, including a massive global drive to exploit unconventional oils, such as the Canadian tar sands.
