Obituary - Tony Denton - Engineering on the high seas

Anthony Albert Denton CBE, consulting engineer, was born March 14, 1937. He died on March 3, 2001, aged 63. Denton was technical director of Noble Denton from 1971, became managing director in 1977 and then chairman and chief executive of Noble Denton International, from which he retired in 1997. A pioneer of Offshore Marine Technology he was given a grant by Quasi Arc to take a doctorate at Imperial College and then became a lecturer. Later he met Capt David Noble who needed someone to assist him with stability and stress calculations, and Denton agreed to do them in the evenings after his academic work. Eventually he had to choose between academia and Denton and chose Denton - in 1971 the partnership becoming Noble Denton
