UK hit by EU gas liberalisation

European Union moves to open the natural gas market to competition are backfiring and could cost UK industry and households £2.4bn ($3.6bn) this year, a study has found. Wood MacKenzie, an international energy consultancy, said the EU Gas Directive was failing to promote substantial gas competition and would lead to significantly higher energy costs across Northern Europe.
