Trinidad’s Matapal achieves early first gas

BP Trinidad and Tobago (BPTT) reports that its Matapal project has produced first gas ahead of schedule and under budget, despite the restriction of the COVID-19 pandemic.

Matapal is the company’s second subsea development offshore Trinidad. It comprises three wells tied back to the existing Juniper platform. Initial production is expected to be in the range of 250–350mn cf/d once all wells are fully ramped up.

With 15 offshore production platforms, BPTT is Trinidad’s largest hydrocarbon producer, accounting for about 55% of the nation’s gas production.
