EU Commission Rules Out German Gas Tax Exemption
The EU Commission has rejected German plans to exempt the gas used to fuel highly-efficient combined cycle gas turbine (CCGT) plants from taxes. Brussels believes that the exemption, planned for a 10-year period, constitutes a subsidy that it cannot approve. While the Social Democratic part of the German government did not seem to be too unhappy about the vote, the Greens said they still hoped they could change the Commission's view.
