Join our Council

The Energy Institute relies on the participation and support of its members, thousands of whom donate their time, expertise and energies as volunteers in a range of interesting ways, from advising on our events and technical programmes to sitting on our board of trustees and local branch and Young Professional Network committees.

If you are a member and are interested in being more involved, you might like to consider the following opportunity to stand for election to join the EI’s Council. The Council is the EI’s Board of Trustees made up of volunteers who give their time to govern the charity, set its strategic direction and monitor its performance.

Being a member of the Council requires you to attend four Council meetings each year and participate in an annual dinner and away-day meeting as well as serve on other committees of Council ideally.

There is one vacancy for elected members, to serve a term of three years, after which they retire at the AGM and may be eligible for re-election.

The Council would particularly welcome nominations of individuals with at least one of the following skills and/or experience: legal qualification and experience; ICT and digital experience; strong links with energy sector employers, especially new tech start-ups, low carbon heat or transport sectors; an experienced HR/organisational capability professional. Nominations are particularly welcome from diverse and under-represented communities within the EI membership.

If you would like to be nominated to stand for election to Council, nomination forms can be obtained from Lydia Malley (lmalley@energyinst.org) and must be returned by Wednesday 12 May. The nomination form must be signed by a proposer, five other members and the nominee. No member may sign more than one nomination paper as a proposer or supporter. The names of the proposers and supporters will be published along with the nominee’s personal statement. Candidates must be prepared to sign a declaration of trust that says they are fit and proper persons to serve as charity trustees.

If the number of nominations exceeds the number of vacancies, a ballot will be held, and further details issued to members.
