The 250 Wh/kg for today’s best Li-ion batteries is considered suitable for a short two-person flight in an eVTOL aircraft. However, all the associated electrical equipment represents additional weight, hence the required target is 500 Wh/kg. This target is already claimed for the Sion licerion lithium metal battery. Whereas a silicon anode can hold ten times more electrons than graphite, volume changes up to 300% occur during charging and discharging.
