In UK, Rolls-Royce predicts that an element of electric propulsion within commercial flights will appear by 2029, but that sustainable aviation fuels will still be required since 2/3 of all jet fuel is used on sectors longer than 1000 nm, not achievable by electric propulsion alone. It is estimated that 500 million tonnes of SAF will be needed boy 2050.
