‘Engineering makes everything possible’ – Lord Browne tells EI event

A name synonymous with the energy industry, Lord Browne FREng HonFEI, joined the EI for a special evening event in September during which he discussed his new book Make, Think, Imagine: Engineering the Future of Civilisation, raising salient questions about energy, technology and the future of engineering.

Addressing a busy room at the EI head office in London, he highlighted the centrality of engineering in both history and the future, telling attendees: ‘Engineering is the platform on which everything else happens – the thing that makes everything possible.’

‘In conversation’ with EI President Steve Holliday FREng FEI, who described the book as a ‘tour de force’ in the world of engineering, Lord Browne touched on climate change, workforce automation and data privacy, all of which involve the application of engineers and their vital skills.

Following 41 years at BP, in which he gained a reputation as a visionary leader, Lord Browne continues to provide energy expertise as Executive Chairman of L1 Energy and co-Chairman of Wintershall Dea. He is Chairman and member of multiple boards, including Huawei UK,Stanhope Capital, Accenture Global EnergyBoard and IHS Markit, among others, as well as a member of the House of Lords.
