Eni awarded new E&P licence offshore Ghana

Eni (70%, operator) and its partner Vitol (30%) have been awarded rights to block WB03, located in the medium deep waters of the prolific Tano Basin, offshore Ghana.

The joint venture will include the Ghana National Petroleum Corporation (GNPC) and a local registered company that will be named once the contract has been finalised and approved by the Ghana authorities.

This award follows Ghana’s first international competitive bid round, in which five blocks were put on offer in water depths ranging from 100–4,400 metres.

Eni already owns rights to the development areas of Sankofa and Gye Nyame in Ghana’s Tano Basin, as well as to the E&P area of CTP-block 4.

The new block is located approximately 50 km south-east from the
John Agyekum Kufuor (JAK) floating production, storage and offloading (FPSO) vessel that is currently producing oil and gas from the Sankofa field.

Total currently produces some 70,000 boe/d from its Ghana assets.
