G Norris, Hybrid engine modification concept gains traction, Aviation Week & Space Technology, 25 March - 7 April, 2019, p 50

In UK, Derwent Aviation is further developing the dual-drive booster (DDB) comprising a gearbox and electric motor/generator added to the current direct-driven turbofans. This will augment take-off, climb and cruise power with battery power for short-to-medium range aircraft. DDB incorporates an epicyclic gearbox connected to both low- and high-pressure shafts, together with an embedded 1.2 MW motor/generator located in the LP compressor/booster section.
