G Warwick, Record-breaking Zephyr’s battery holds eVTOL potential, Aviation Week & Space Technology, 14-17 January 2019 p 52

In US, Amprius is providing the high-energy-density lithium-ion cells for Airbus’ solar-powered Zephyr stratospheric unmanned aircraft. With graphite anodes, conventional lithium-ion cells possess an energy density of about 320 Wh/kg, but this is raised to 635 Wh/kg in the new cells incorporating silicon nanowire anodes. This eliminates the problem of significant volume changes when charging and discharging that quickly pulverises the material. The Zephyr stayed aloft for almost 26 days, creating a new endurance record.
