Energy World March 2019

It’s time to focus on energy efficiency again. As the opening article on page 14 says, it’s essential that the UK reduces its energy demand considerably, even on top of historical progress, as climate politics demand this. This is followed by a piece on the government’s published list of energy efficient technologies – why look elsewhere?

We also include articles on energy management in the manufacturing sector; the return of the Energy Savings Opportunities Scheme (ESOS) and the scope for cutting energy use by improving power quality.

Our second feature covers low carbon futures, starting with a survey of progress being made around the world with carbon capture, use and storage and its attendant new technologies. Subsequent articles focus on measuring and metering issues around the flow of carbon dioxide, and the importance of science-based emission targets.

The issue also contains the second of EI President Malcolm Brinded’s contributions, this time on priorities for UK energy research; and the first in a new series of articles from EI Young Professionals Networks. Plus UK and international update pages, and two opinion pieces.
