Interim Registration - a step towards success

Many people working in engineering in the energy sector see getting professionally registered as an important milestone in their career. Titles like Chartered Energy Engineer, Chartered Petroleum Engineer, Incorporated Engineer (IEng) and Engineering Technician (EngTech) show that you have met the nationally recognised standards to practice as an engineering professional. They are “must have” qualifications in the UK and are widely respected by employers throughout the world.

But how do you get there? If you want to get professionally registered as an engineer working in energy, there are two things you will need to demonstrate

  1. You have the foundation technical knowledge, skill and understanding to be an engineer.
  2. You can apply your knowledge, understanding and skills in the workplace to the national standards of competence and commitment.

If that sounds like too much to tackle all at once, the good news is that you don’t have to! Gaining Interim Registration shows that you have demonstrated the first part, that is, that you already have the foundation technical knowledge, skills and understanding you’ll need to become a qualified engineer – essentially, it means you already have the first part of the requirements you will need to meet “in the bank.”

If your qualifications are accredited by the Engineering Council, you may automatically have satisfied the standards for part 1 (if your course is accredited it means that your programme was assessed against the standards and meets all or part of the knowledge requirements). If you want to get formal recognition that you have met the standards and are committed to going on to achieve a professional registration, you can apply to us for Interim Registration right away.

But Interim Registration is particularly important if you have developed your knowledge in energy through other qualifications and experience. Applying for Interim Registration means that we can carry out an individual assessment of all your knowledge and experience against the Engineering Council’s standards – if you meet them now, you can get on with focusing on working towards professional registration., If not, we will provide you with advice on where you need to fill in the gaps in your knowledge so that you can move on with your journey.

Why apply?

  • Interim registration gives you your first professional qualification in the Energy Sector.
  • It shows you will have completed the first part of your journey for professional registration – but if you aren’t there yet, it means that we can help.
  • It helps you to demonstrate to employers that you are committed to building your professional career in energy.

Who should apply?

  1. who is interested in becoming a Chartered Engineer, Incorporated Engineer, or Engineering Technician and does not hold the necessary Engineering Council accredited qualifications.
  2. who is interested in these registrations but does not yet have the professional experience to apply for full registration.
  3. that wants to show to their employers, government and society that they are on track to a professional qualification proving their competence and professionalism in the industry.
