Meeting globally rising energy demand in a socially, environmentally, and economically responsible way was under the spotlight at Shell’s Make the Future debate in Singapore, in November.

The EI’s Managing Director for Asia Pacific, Peter Godfrey FEI, joined the expert panel which included Shell Executive Committee member and Integrated Gas & New Energies Director Maarten Wetselaar.

Taking live questions from the audience as well as social media, the debate explored differing solutions to the global energy challenge being faced.

In particular, Peter used the opportunity to challenge the energy sector on energy efficiency, saying:

'I don't believe the energy industry in its own practices is nearly energy efficient enough... [industry] needs to start taking energy efficiency much more seriously'.

As part of Shell’s commitment to discussing the energy challenge and finding solutions, a number of Make the Future Festivals have been held around the world, creating a space for some of the most senior industry leaders and experts to explore the multiple possibilities for a new energy future.
