French oil major Total backs out of Iran as US sanctions bite

Total has officially left Iran's South Pars gas developmen in response to US threats to impose sanctions on companies that do business in the country. Iran is now looking for a replacement. The company's exit leaves the door open for China to take a larger stake in the project.
