In US, the University of Purdue and Notre Dame have developed a theoretical model showing that thermo-acoustics can occur in solids. If proven in practice, this could permit vibrations from the temperature differences between the Sun and deep space to be converted to electrical energy for long-term powering of spacecraft engines
