Perspective: CCS – aiming for gold at the rainbow's end

Capture of carbon dioxide (CO2) before combustion, or at the emissions outflow, is a well understood remedy for fossil fuel use. But carbon capture and storage (CCS) has a reputation for being ‘expensive’. In the UK, that expensive reputation derives from multiple attempts at developing CCS end-to-end projects, under stringent government rules.
