Making fuel and oxygen on Mars using plasma, NewScientist, 28 October 2017, p 10

In Portugal, the University of Lisbon suggests that the 96% CO2 atmosphere on Mars could be split into breathable oxygen and CO fuel. The lower atmospheric pressure and ambient temperature of -60°C are more conducive to this process than on Earth. Application of about 200 W for 4 hours daily could produce up to 16 kg of oxygen, which compares with the maximum requirements of 5 kg/day on the Space Station.
