Petroleum Review October 2017

The Energy Institute’s recently invested President, Malcolm Brinded CBE FEI, leads this month’s Petroleum Review with his view on how the global energy sector will develop in the future and the role that the EI will play. In addition, he offers some sage advice to those looking to embark on a career in the sector.

We also look at how Iast year’s earthquakes in Italy have derailed the country’s plans to become a European gas hub, and how public oppositon to exploration is impacting the oil sector in Portugal.

Our annual decommissioning/mature assets feature rounds up the latest challenges and opportunities facing the sector. It also reviews the use of new and developing technologies to maintain asset integrity.

Continuing the theme of innovation, this month’s magazine assesses the potential of blockchain, which is claimed could transform all sectors of the energy industry. We also look at how total asset management can be used to improve businesses’ profit margins, and how energy companies are reassessing travel arrangements in a bid to cut costs.

Meanwhile, our digital feature presents the findings of an EI Technical study of global marine products losses, from which benchmarks have been set.
