Oil and gas companies look for benefits in EU–Japan trade deal

Oil and gas companies trading between the European Union (EU) and Japan are likely to benefit from a new economic partnership agreement, which will fully liberalise trade in all industrial goods, including downstream products such as chemicals and plastics, writes Keith Nuthall. The comprehensive deal – agreed in principle in early July – also includes a chapter on international maritime transport services. Both sides agreed to maintain open and non-discriminatory access to each other’s shipping, ports and auxiliary services.
