Wind farm and grid interconnection in German North Sea

An interconnection between the Veja Mate offshore wind farm and the offshore grid connection system Borwin2 in the German North Sea has been made, says telecom cable systems provider Prysmian which oversaw the project.

The interconnection consists of two 155 kV high-voltage alternating current (HVAC) submarine cables along an 11-km route, linking Veja Mate to the BorWin beta offshore platform where the conversion from the alternating current generated by the wind farms into direct current takes place. This enables power transmission to the mainland via the BorWin2 submarine cable link.

The Borwin2 cable connection has a transmission capacity of 800 MW and comprises high voltage direct current (HVDC) cables manufactured by Prysmian.
