First wind turbine for Saudi Arabia

The first ever wind turbine in Saudi Arabia has been installed by Global Wind Service (GWS) in a bid to encourage renewable energy growth in the country. GWS deployed its Turkish team to install the GE 2.75-120 wind turbine, which has a power output of 2.5 MW, a blade tip height of 145 metres, and the capacity to power up to 250 Saudi households.

A bulk gasoline plant in Turaif in Saudi Arabia will be powered by the wind turbine, which is expected to reduce the amount of diesel fuel needed to power the plant by around 19,000 barrels a year.
