Energy World February 2017
We return to renewables again in this issue as our main theme – but concentrate on onshore projects and smaller-scale developments for a change.
Three articles cover solar photovoltaic power – the first is an account of how a group of people in Manchester came together to raise money and develop rooftop solar projects to benefit local communities. The second article discusses how solar projects are faring in Africa – from off-grid microprojects serving homes to much larger ground-mounted schemes.
The third article takes a look at how solar power generation and electricity storage batteries can be used both to maximise the on-site use of power generated and stabilise local power grids.
The ‘community energy’ theme is taken up again in a piece on investing in medium-sized renewables projects. Our second theme is finance itself, with articles on funding energy efficiency projects; how large incumbent utilities need to face up to disruptive market entrants; and the fossil fuel divestment campaign.
One more article visits Japan’s retail electricity market, and we also include viewpoint articles and columns, plus the usual UK and international news updates.
