London’s local authority solar

The London Borough of Hounslow has opened what it says is the largest solar photovoltaic array by a local authority in the UK and the first to adopt a battery storage solution. The council has installed a 1.73 MW array consisting of over 6,000 LG Solar panels each rated at 285 W, SolarEdge Inverter and DC power optimisers (for performance monitoring) and four 60 kW Tesvolt lithium ion batteries in a £2mn scheme.

Hounslow has started to covert the site of Western International Market, west London’s largest wholesale market for fresh produce and flowers, into a carbon zero zone. The new system now generates half of the site’s required electricity, and it will contribute 2% of the council’s carbon reduction target.
