70 MW gas-fired power plant for Indian state utility

Marine and energy technology company Wärtsilä is to supply a 70 MW gas-fired modular engine-based plant to electricity producers Assam Power Generation Corporation (APGCL) in north-eastern India.

The project is financed by the Asian Development Bank as part of an investment programme for energy infrastructure in Assam. APGCL hopes the new Wärtsilä technology will produce a more efficient and reliable power supply, with better access to electricity for the local population.

Initially, the power station will operate on an open cycle mode, but APGCL has the option of converting it to a combined cycle plant by installing waste heat recovery units.

The power plant, which will be delivered on a turn-key basis, is due to commence operation in March 2018, with Wärtsilä supplying seven 34SG engines running on natural gas.
