China unveils ‘green’ five-year plan

China’s latest Five-Year Plan is the ‘greenest’ ever with numerous environmental-related priorities shifting away from heavily polluted industries. The plan targets an 18% reduction in carbon-intensity levels from 2015 levels. The World Resources Institute estimates China will actually reduce its carbon intensity 48% from 2005 levels by 2020, exceeding its original target of a 40–45% reduction by 2020 set at the 2009 Copenhagen climate talks.
