LNG trade surpasses previous highs

LNG trade in total reached 244.8mn tonnes in 2015, up 4.7mn tonnes from 2014 and the largest year ever for LNG trade, surpassing the previous high of 241.5mn tonnes set in 2011, according to the latest figures from the International Gas Union. Although the Pacific Basin remains the largest source of demand, growth was driven by Europe and the Middle East.

New regasification markets formed in Egypt, Jordan, Pakistan and Poland, just in time to benefit from near record-low prices.
