Net increase of two nuclear reactors worldwide in 2015

World nuclear capacity increased slightly in 2015 with ten new reactors starting up and eight permanently shut down, according to data gathered by the World Nuclear Association.

Around 9.5 GW of capacity was connected in 2015, double the 4.5 GW added in 2014. Eight of the ten units were added in China. At the end of 2015, some 439 reactors were in operation totalling 382 GW. This compares to 437 reactors at the start of the year totalling 378 GW of capacity.

One unit was shut in Germany in 2015, five in Japan, one in Sweden and one in the UK (Wylfa 1).
