Why carbon taxes are the true catalyst for decarbonisation

In 2024, global CO₂ emissions from fossil fuel use were projected to increase by 0.8%, reaching a record 37.4 Gt. This trend highlights the need for more robust mechanisms to drive the transition to low-carbon technologies. The effectiveness of carbon credits in mitigating climate change has come under scrutiny in recent analyses by Science Based Targets Initiative, among others, suggesting they may not deliver the intended environmental benefits.
