A 22 MWp solar farm at Rome’s Leonardo da Vinci Airport has become the largest photovoltaic installation of its kind in Europe.
The new solar farm, located along the east side of Runway 3, uses about 55,000 monocrystalline silicon modules and will produce more than 30mn kWh/y.
Constructed by the Enel Group on behalf of Aeroporti di Roma (ADR), the project is expected is to reduce CO2 emissions by more than 11,000 t/y. ADR’s goal is to make both of Rome’s airports net zero by 2030.
The plant, developed in collaboration with Circet, began construction in late 2023 and took about a year to complete.
