RWE and TotalEnergies are to jointly deliver the OranjeWind offshore wind farm in the Netherlands, with TotalEnergies acquiring a 50% equity stake in the project from RWE.

The 795 MW OranjeWind project, formerly known as Hollandse Kust West VII, is located approximately 53 km from IJmuiden on the Dutch coast. It is expected to have an annual generation of around 3 TWh.

RWE will lead the development, construction and operation on behalf of the joint venture, with offshore construction scheduled to start in 2026, and full commissioning expected in early 2028.

The partnership will see the implementation of various system integration solutions, including electrolysers, smart charging solutions for electric vehicles, e-boilers for heating and battery storage.

OranjeWind will also support innovation by facilitating the commercial application of new technologies, including floating solar, in collaboration with SolarDuck, and a technology that can measure wind at long ranges. In addition, the project will also demonstrate a seabed battery system developed in cooperation with Verlume and a pumped hydro-storage system in collaboration with Ocean Grazer.

A turbine supply agreement has been signed with Vestas who will supply, deliver and commission 53 V236-15 MW turbines for the project.

Iberdrola starts construction of 101 MW project

Iberdrola’s El Escudo onshore wind farm in Cantabria, Spain, has been given the green light to continue with preliminary construction work. The facility, which will have a capacity of 101 MW, is expected to generate enough renewable energy to avoid the emission of 45,000 t/y of CO2.

The municipalities of Molledo, Luena and Campoo de Yuso will house 23 of the 24 wind turbines planned, as well as the wind farm’s electrical substation.
