Romanian renewable energy developer Monsson has commissioned the largest energy battery storage system in Romania as part of the country’s first hybrid photovoltaic-wind-battery project.

Installed at the 50 MW Mireasa Wind Park, in Constanța county, the storage unit has a capacity of 24 MWh (6 MW x 4 hours) and represents the first stage of a total 216 MWh in storage to be installed by the end of the year at the same location.

The storage unit will be charged with energy produced by Mireasa and a 35 MW photovoltaic project under construction, named Gălbiori 2, set to be grid connected by the end of 2024. It will be charged with energy from the national grid when there is no wind or sun.

The storage unit features lithium-ion batteries produced locally by Romania’s Prime Batteries The project is fully automated using Monsson software for control.
