Adani Green Energy Limited (AGEL), India’s largest renewable energy company, has announced its 551 MW solar project in Khavda, Gujarat, has begun to supply power to the national grid.

When complete, the Khavda renewable energy park – said to be the largest renewable energy installation in the world – will generate 30 GW of energy for the national grid.

The park is expected achieve full capacity in the next five years, powering 16.1 million homes and avoiding an estimated 58mn tonnes of CO2 emissions annually.

Khavda, located in the Kutch district of the western state of Gujarat, is said to be a promising location for wind and solar energy projects, with ~2,060 kWh/m2 of solar irradiation and wind speeds of ~8 metres/second.
