The Zwartowo solar park, claimed to be the largest in Central and Eastern Europe, has been connected to the Polish electricity grid.

Operator Goldbeck Solar reports that the first 204 MWp phase of the project began supplying clean electricity to customers this month, making an important contribution to Poland’s energy independence and security. Work on a second 86 MWp phase will begin early next year.

‘The positive impact [of this project] on the environment is enormous,’ comments Joachim Goldbeck, Managing Director, Goldbeck Solar. ‘Through Zwartowo, more than 90,470 households can be supplied with green energy and CO2 emissions can be reduced by about 5mn tonnes during the project period.’

The project was funded by Joachim Goldbeck, together with partner Respect Energy. Additional financing came from the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) as well as the two largest Polish banks, PKO BP and Bank Pekao.

Goldbeck adds: ‘We need to create examples that show the clear and real benefits of photovoltaics on a large scale. We are determined to build large solar power plants to achieve energy independence in Europe.’

Zwartowo covers an area of around 300 hectares and is the biggest solar park to be built by Goldbeck Solar to date.
