Mitsubishi to perform CO2 capture demonstration test at cement plant

News
Mitsubishi Heavy Industries Engineering and Tokuyama have signed a memorandum of understanding to implement a carbon capture demonstration testing programme at Tokuyama’s cement plant in Japan.
Mitsubishi’s mobile capture test unit is being installed at the plant in Shunan, Yamaguchi Prefecture, where Tokuyama is based, and will capture CO2 and other components from the cement kiln’s gas flue. The demonstration programme will begin in June 2022 and run for nine months.
Mitsubishi, together with Kansai Electric Power, has been developing its post-combustion CO2 capture technologies – KM CDR ProcessTM and Advanced KM CDR ProcessTM – since 1990. As of March 2022, Mitsubishi had delivered 13 plants adopting the KM CDR Process, with three more under construction. This is Mitsubishi’s first demonstration test in a cement plant, after the technology was successfully used in commercial applications at chemical and coal-fired power plants.
