Petroleum Review January 2013

We begin the New Year with a review of upcoming oil and gas prospects, outlining some of the trends and developments for 2013 and beyond as new resource finds call for a redrawing of the global energy map. In the face of such change, we also look at whether the traditional integrated business model will hold up, or whether industry leaders will need to take steps to develop a more innovative model as the energy landscape changes.

This issue also reviews the progress being made in understanding gas hydrates – advances in engineering, identification and prospecting technology are increasing its potential to be a fuel for the future. We also look at developments in future transport fuels, with an update on the hydrogen sector in the UK, charging technologies for electric vehicles and a new biofuel that has been designed to function within existing infrastructure and vehicles as blends incease beyond the 10% level.

This month Petroleum Review also interviews Dr Fatih Birol HonFEI, Chief Economist, International Energy Agency, about the challenges and opportunities facing the global energy sector. Dr Birol will be addressing these issues at next month’s IP Week conference.
