Energy World April 2015
There are two main themes in this issue of the magazine – gas and research and development.
For the former, we concentrate mainly on ‘unconventional’ gases, with one article covering the growing biogas industry in Europe, particularly where biogases are fed into the main natural gas network; and another discussing the mixed prospects for unconventional gases – mainly shale gas – in this new era of low international oil prices. The last article looks at the ‘free’ energy available at natural gas pipeline pressure reducing stations, and how this can be tapped.
We then switch to R&D, starting with an article on the potential role for various types of electrical energy storage, should suitable economic and business models be adopted. We also look at current research into both heating and electrical energy networks; and discuss the emergence of a ‘cold economy’ in the UK to supply increasing needs for cooling.
With a general election on the near horizon, we include a piece on energy policies from the main parties. And this issue also looks at energy efficiency in the commercial sector and the energy scene in Egypt.
