Energy World May 2015
Nuclear power is our main feature for this issue of the magazine. While awaiting concrete news on progress for the proposed Hinkley Point C project, we cover some other areas. First, we summarise the latest information from the Nuclear Decommissioning Authority on how much it’s going to cost to decommission the earliest-developed nuclear sites in the UK, dating from the 1950s.
We also include articles on two technologies for the future: reactors based on liquid fuels, and small-scale fusion power. Last, we take a look at how a nuclear developer runs the consultation process for a major new nuclear installation; in this case the proposed Sizewell C.
This issue also contains a series of articles on renewable energy technologies. We tend to cover offshore technologies – particularly offshore wind – at another point in the editorial cycle, so here we concentrate on grid issues, prospects for near-shore tidal power, optimising the use of anaerobic digestion and keeping large-scale hydropower installations operating efficiently.
As always, we round up international and home news at the front of the magazine, together with our opinion pieces from external and internal authors.
