In Finland, an icebreaker vessel is under construction with the capability of moving continuously through ice of 1.6 m thickness, and maintaining a speed of 6 knots through ice of 1.2 m thickness.   The vessel is to be powered by Wartsila engines operating on both LNG and low-sulphur diesel fuel.   Reduction in both fuel costs and exhaust emissions result from the use of LNG.
