In Poland, the aviation fuels subcommittee of ASTM has met to discuss the certification of alternative jet fuels to include CTL and GTL in 50% blends with Jet A. To date, bio-jet fuels (described as hydrogenated vegetable oils, HVO) are not yet available in sufficient quantities for comprehensive engine tests. The following definitions of biofuels are given:
Generation 1. Vegetable oils and greases that compete with the food chain
Generation bridge. Jatropha.
Generation 2. Lignocellulosic waste and algae.
