In US, ASTM International has approved 100% Sasol CTL fuel for aviation, and is considering easing approval standards for other synthetic fuels in order to hasten their introduction into airline operation. Airbus opted for the GTL method since this technology appear slightly more advanced than BTL, and the resulting fuels from the two methods are nearly identical. The February flight of the A380 using 37.4% GTL/62.6% Jet A-1 fed to one of the RR Trent 900 engines incorporated a number of operational tests en route including gravity feeding since the density of the blend was relatively low, but this test at 43 000 ft was successful.
