In US, it is reported that the current IATA fuel bill has reached $115 billion, representing 26% of direct operating costs, with fuel prices relatively stable at just under $70 per barrel. In the 1973 oil crisis, prices rose from $3 to $5.12 per barrel, then to $12 in 1974. The USAF goal is 50% of aviation fuel to come from non-oil sources by 2016.
