In UK, the Association of North East Councils is recommending the adoption of the German Maglev system for a 500 km/h south-north rail link from London to Glasgow. Claims include: faster than short-haul jet, 20% only of jet's emissions, silent operation in urban areas, least intrusive civil engineering of any ground transport mode, and exceptionally high levels of safety.
