European biomass-to-liquids deal, Petroleum Review, October 2005, p 11

In Germany, Shell Deutschland Oil is now involved with Choren Industries in the construction of what is claimed to be the world's first commercial facility for converting 15000 t/y of wood-chips and other biomatter into the sulphur and aromatics-free biodiesel SunFuel. The renewable syngas will be converted by the Shell Middle Distillate Synthesis Technology. Whereas first generation biofuels such as RME and ethanol are based on the same parts of plants used for food production, these second generation biofuels are based on parts of plants not so used, thus increasing yields per hectare.
