In US, the FAA has delayed the safety requirements of its 2001 Fuel Tank Safety Rule for transport aircraft maintenance by four years to 16 December 2008. These requirements concern design assessments to eliminate sources of ignition from fuel tanks, but the programs and guidelines are proving complex.
