In US, Space Exploration Technologies Corp. (SpaceX) has successfully test fired the 7 500 lbf (33.36 kN) thrust Kestrel upper stage engine for the new commercial Falcon rocket, using liquid oxygen and kerosine. An efficiency of 94.8 % is claimed. The larger first-stage engine had been test fired earlier. The vehicle incorporates advanced aluminium-lithium tanks, and is designed for high performance at substantially lower costs.
